That is deliberate. Calling means a SIM card, a monthly plan, and a device other people can dial into. Most parents who look at kids' watches are not trying to give their child a phone. They are trying to avoid giving them one while still knowing where they are.

No. It requires an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

The watch is found through Apple's Find My network, and Apple does not make Find My for Android. There is no workaround and no app that fixes it. If your household is Android, this watch will not do the main thing you are buying it for, and you should not buy it.

The watch broadcasts a secure, encrypted Bluetooth signal, the same way an AirTag does. Any nearby Apple device, and there are roughly a billion of them, quietly picks up that signal and reports the location back to you. The people whose phones relay it never know it happened, and neither do we. Only you can see where it is.

Accuracy depends on how many Apple devices are around. At a school, a mall, a park, a friend's house, or anywhere in a town, it updates frequently and puts you within a very short distance. On an empty rural stretch with nobody nearby, it will show the last confirmed location and the time it was seen, rather than a live position.

When you get close, tap Play Sound and the watch chimes so you can find it in a backpack or under a couch.

Being straight with you: this is everyday awareness, not emergency response. It is excellent for the daily question of where they are. It is not a replacement for calling the police.
